Mermaid Marine founder and non-executive director Captain Jim Carver has resigned from the WA marine logistics business today.
Captain Carver founded Mermaid Marine in 1982 with a single vessel, the "Andrew" and under his direction the business's fleet grew and listed on the stock exchange in 1999.
Today Mermaid Marine has more than 30 vessels, a head office in Fremantle, a main operation base in Dampier, and is Australia's largest marine services provider to the offshore oil and gas industry.
Managing Director Jeffrey Weber and chairman Tony Howarth said they were grateful to Captain Carver for his commitment and contribution to the business for more than 30 years.
"From an industry perspective, Captain Carver should also be commended for his generous nature and commitment to providing job opportunities and support to those without clear career paths," Mr Weber said.
"Presented with numerous challenges during the early stages of Mermaid Marine's life, Captain Carver responded with resilience and a can do attitude that still exists in the company culture today," he said.
Captain Carter will continue at the company on a consultancy basis.
