Perth-based Medusa Mining has reported an accident at its Co-O gold mine in the Philippines, resulting in the death of two of its employees.

The miners, who worked for Medusa’s Philippines operating company, Philsaga Mining Corporation, were killed during a rockfall at the underground mine.

Medusa said a third employee had been taken to hospital with serious injuries and was in a stable condition.

“The company is deeply upset by the incident and is providing support to the families of the workers and the Co-O workforce,” Medusa said in an ASX announcement.

The company has ceased activities at the immediate area of the accident, pending the outcome of a detailed investigation.

The Philippines Mines and Geosciences Bureau has been notified, Medusa said.

Its shares were down 9.3 per cent at 3:20pm to 63 cents per share.
