Mazza appointed new Supreme Court judge

Western Australia Judge Robert Mazza has today been appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of WA, replacing Justice Geoffrey Miller who retired late last year.

Judge Mazza was previously a Judge of the District Court of WA.

He was thrust into the spotlight earlier this year after former director of public prosecutions Robert Cock reportedly made comments about Judge Mazza's conduct during the case of Robert McLeod and his sons, Barry and Scott.

The McLeods were acquitted last year on charges of assaulting Constable Matthew Butcher, which left him paralysed down one side of his body.

Meantime, John Gerrad Staude will replace Judge Mazza as a Judge of the District Court of WA.
