With todays technology uranium mining is a reasonably safe industry. Many people can only think about the disasters in Russia and Japan. What they do not take into consideration is the quality of the construction of these plants. Here in Australia, especially in WA uranium mining would be located in areas far away from any towns. Today uranium can be used in many safe areas and its use can be safely engineered now that we know what happened to the earlier situations. We also have to take into consideration that we would not be the first country to utilise uranium as many countries in Europe and the UK have had uranium powered stations for many years. So providing caution is taken both in mining and its use, then Australia should accept uranium as part of our day today living.
