MARK Hutchison’s most significant business achievements have been the establishment of Bamboozle, and the very journey he undertook to realise this dream. Established in 2002, the company specialises in the manufacture, importation and complete installation of premium bamboo flooring to the residential market. His journey began at age 24 as a horticulture graduate. He worked for several years in the horticulture and irrigation industry but saw little growth potential. He was introduced to bamboo flooring shortly after as an alternative to timber. He and a business partner saw an opportunity to begin a new bamboo-flooring venture. Mr Hutchison was to suffer health problems and walked away from the venture with an ambition to again be well and to find a new edge in the market. His new business plan involved the manufacture and importation of high-quality bamboo flooring, together with a highly organised, efficient and ethical delivery system. With tireless help from his family, personal savings of $20,000 and some “angel investors”, he started a business from home. It’s Bamboo was launched in January 2002 and was later re-bran-ded Bamboozle, with the company recently moving to Osborne Park. Through strategic planning and viewing the business as a science, Mr Hutchison has far greater control over his business. His top tip is to “choose a product or service that is on trend and endeavour to be the very best at it. “Build a winning team, always keep the vision, use the business to develop yourself and measure everything,” he said.
