The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA will hold Managing Employee Sick Leave – What are Employer’s Options on Thursday November 4 at the Chamber’s Function Centre in East Perth.
The workshop aims to give a comprehensive overview of employers’ rights when dealing with ongoing long and short-term employee sick leave absences.
Attendees will be given options and ideas on how to manage what can be a sensitive issue to ensure they don’t make decisions that result in expensive and ineffective outcomes.
Speakers at the workshop will be CCI legal manager Geoff Bull and independent medical examiner and occupational physician Dr Alan Home.
Mr Bull will speak on your rights and options as an employer, recent tribunal rulings on short and long-term absences, when termination for absenteeism constitutes an unfair dismissal, and how to fulfil your obligations to your staff for sick leave.
Dr Home will explain medical definitions of long and short-term absenteeism, factors that contribute to repeated short-term absences and how employers can respond to this, the role of general practitioners in issuing medical certificates and practical methods of control and risk management.
Registrations can be made with the Chamber for members $55 and non-members $82.50.
