iiNet founder Michael Malone has been appointed chair of Brisbane-based fibre network operator Superloop.

Superloop founder Bevan Slattery has moved into the role of chief executive, having served as executive chair of the company since its creation in 2014.

Mr Malone has been a non-executive director of the company since April 2015.

He resigned as chief executive of then Perth-based iiNet in March of the previous year.

Since then, Mr Malone has joined the boards of several notable tech and communications firms.

He currently serves on the boards of NBN Company, Barristers Chambers, Seven West Media, SpeedCast, Dreamscape Networks, and is the chair of Diamond Cyber.

ASX-listed Superloop owns and operates fibre networks in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.

The company also owns SubPartners, which is a member of the INDIGO consortium currently constructing two submarine cable systems: Perth-Singapore and Perth-Sydney.
