TA James & Co and Saw Cambridge Brannelly may not appear to have much in common with Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse First Boston.

The common link is that all these names have disappeared from the Western Australian stockbroking industry.

Whether it’s locally-owned niche players or global powerhouses, there is no guarantee of success or longevity in Perth stockbroking.

Just ask BNP Paribas, CIBC, Credit Suisse, HSBC and Merrill Lynch, all of which have pulled out over the past year.

The flipside of this trend is the entry of new, smaller players to the Perth industry, such as Euroz Securities, Grange Securities and Terrain Securities.
