Macmahon wins $90m QR contract

Macmahon Holdings has confirmed today it has been awarded a $90 million contract by national transport provider QR for the upgrade and expansion of a rail corridor in Queensland.

Macmahon, as part of the Coal Stream Alliance, was awarded the civil works contract within the Goonyella to Abbot Point expansion project.

The alliance comprises of Aurecon Hatch and Parsons Brinckerhoff as designers, and Macmahon and MVM as constructors.

It is the CSA's first project with QR.

Macmahon had last week flagged the contract deal in a response to an Australian Securities Exchange regarding the high volume of shares traded on no news.

Under the QR contract, the CSA will upgrade and expand the rail corridor between Abbot Point Coal Terminal and Bogie River. Works include construction of two bridges, extension and construction of passing loops, rail duplication and pavement strengthening and laying.

The project is designed to support an increase in port capacity to 50 million tonnes per annum by 2012.

Shares in Macmahon are currently in a trading halt and last traded at 84.5c.
