Macmahon wins $230m contract

WELSHPOOL-BASED contracting and services group, Macmahon Holdings Ltd, has been awarded a $230 million contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Jimblebar mine, 60 kilometres east of Newman. The news comes less than a month after the group was named preferred tenderer for the second stage of Rio Tinto’s four Argyle Mine underground works, as well as being awarded a design and construction contract for the state government’s Mitchell Freeway extension. Macmahon said the Jimblebar mine, which is an existing BHP Billiton Iron Ore mine, has been operated by Macmahon on a short-term contract since March this year. The mine was previously operated by BGC. Macmahon now has two long-term BHP contracts in the Newman region, Orebody 18 and Jimblebar, requiring a combined workforce of more than 300 people.
