Perth-based developer Norup + Wilson’s latest project The Beach Shack, a 99-apartment development in Scarborough, has been given the green light by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.

Located on West Coast Highway on a beachfront site, the development comprises one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments across two buildings, one at nine storeys and the other seven, which incorporate natural finishes.

The original plan for The Beach Shack included 102 apartments, but this has been scaled down to 99 based on amendments made from MRA feedback.

The approval of The Beach Shack follows the MRA's decision to knock back 3 Ocean Property's 35- and 43-storey Iconic Scarborough mixed-use development, which includes 345 apartments, just down the road.

Negotiations are still under way to determine the future of that project.

Norup + Wilson director Dave Wilson said that the project’s overwhelming support from the MRA was a significant achievement.

“This development is on par with all our other projects in regards to good design principles, high-quality finishes, low strata fees and advanced technology,” he said.

“We have also designed facilities which will be used extensively by true beach lovers, including storage for surf boards and kayaks, outdoor showers and places to dry wetsuits.

“In addition, our car parks offer a higher ceiling height to accommodate roof racks and paddle boards.”

The Beach Shack will also offer a communal entertaining area, yoga room and games pavilion, and balconies have been staggered to maximise views.

One-bedroom apartments start from $454,000 and the development is in close proximity to the MRA’s $100 million revitalisation of Scarborough beach.

Norup + Wilson currently has two other apartment projects under way – The Precinct Mount Pleasant and The Crest Burswood.

The boutique developer is ranked 15th on the BNiQ Search Engine’s list of built-form developers, as ranked by the total combined value of projects in Western Australia.
