South Australian company MGM Wireless has been named preferred tenderer for the Western Australian Department of Education and Training's planned school attendance management and communication service.
Details of the project, to allow schools to contact parents and guardians via SMS in case of truancy or similar matters, are yet to be finalised, a spokeswoman for the department told WA Business News.
"All public schools will be offered the opportunity, but will not be obliged, to sign up for the school attendance management and communication service," she said.

South Australian-based school services company MGM Wireless has been named preferred tenderer by the Western Australia Department of Education and Training for the supply of products for School Attendance Management and Communication.
The announcement paves the way for up to 800 WA government schools, from kindergarten to secondary high schools, to adopt MGM Wireless's SMS messaging software, principally the company's suite of messageyou™ attendance monitoring products, which communicate alerts to parents and guardians via text messaging on mobile phones.
The result of the WA Department of Education and Training's tender was announced after a process that included competition from international text-messaging suppliers. Completion of the agreement is subject to certain conditions to the satisfaction of the Department.
MGM Wireless executive chairman Mr. Mark Fortunatow said the company was looking forward to fulfilling its contract in WA, where the company is already well represented in the school services market.
In Australia, MGM Wireless dominates the school text messaging sector, achieving a market share of more than 90% of schools using text message alerts.
