Accounting firm MGI Perth has announced it will merge with Nedlands-based firm Ord Nexia.
The merge shifts MGI Perth into the mid-tier accounting market.
'The move significantly increases our auditing capability and allows us to create our own space in the local market,' says MGI Perth's managing director, Bruce Fielding.
MGI Perth's expanded audit practice includes the addition of Ord Nexia co-founder Ian Macpherson as a consultant, bringing more than 20 years of corporate services experience to the merged firm.
'While our competitors are being absorbed by larger firms, we remain committed to being an independent, locally-based, full service firm and expanding on our expertise,' said Mr Macpherson.
'This move allows us to do all this, while still providing the service and attention to clients only a firm our size can achieve.'

Boutique accounting firms MGI Perth and Ord Nexia have merged.
Trading under the name MGI Perth, the merger boosts the firm's position in Western Australian as a fully integrated financial services provider to small and medium enterprises.
The combined audit and corporate capabilities of Ord Nexia and MGI Perth's corporate tax consulting team means that the newly merged firm can now offer a localised, full service alternative to other national and international firms.
'We have seen the Big-Four firms continue to grow by acquiring smaller firms, and second-tier firms merge in order to remain competitive. There are fewer and fewer alternatives for clients, who struggle for priority and attention from these increasingly large firms,' Bruce says.
The newly merged MGI Perth will now have a leadership team with Big-Four training and experience and five registered company auditors.
Ian agrees that bringing the two firms together builds on their respective experience and expertise.
'While our competitors are being absorbed by larger firms, we remain committed to being an independent, locally-based, full service firm and expanding on our expertise,' Ian says.
'This move allows us to do all this, while still providing the service and attention to clients only a firm our size can achieve.'
The combined MGI Perth and Ord Nexia business services resource also offers a significant advantage to privately owned businesses. The new business advisory team is one of the largest in Perth, offering services such as SMSF, R&D tax concessions, small business CGT concessions and business succession planning, as well as general business and tax advice.
Ord Nexia co-founder Rob Parker also joins as a consultant in business services, also bringing over 20 years' experience to the firm.
MGI Perth will continue to focus on the middle market, junior explorers, small listed companies and private businesses, drawing on local expertise and the global resources available to them via the MGI global network.
