MACA, NRW win $61m of contracts

MACA has secured a $26 million contract at the Fortescue Metals Group-operated Iron Bridge magnetite project in the Pilbara, while NRW Holdings secured a contract in Queensland.

MACA will undertake the bulk earthworks for access roads and infrastructure for the $3.7 billion Iron Bridge project, which is a 69-31 joint venture between FMG and Formosa.

The work encompasses general earthworks for a camp expansion, 23 kilometres of road upgrade works and construction of an explosive facility and access road, as well as a 26km of mine access road.

MACA said it expected to generate around $26 million from the contract.

The Iron Bridge project is expected to create 3,000 jobs during construction and 900 full-time positions once operations start in the first half of 2022.

NRW Holdings’ subsidiary Golding Contractors was awarded a contract by the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance for civil works at the Blackwater coal mine in Queensland.

The contract, which is valued around $35 million, involves civil works such as establishing alternate access for heavy vehicles outside of the mining footprint.

It will also provide civil infrastructure to enable the relocation of a communication mast, relocate critical mine infrastructure, construct the drainage structure and provide flood protection for the new and existing mining pit.

NRW expects to complete its work at Blackwater by January 2021.

NRW secured work in July for BMA at the Goonyella Riverside mine in Queensland, with a value of around $34 million.

Shares in MACA closed trade down 1.05 per cent at 92.5 cents each.

Shares in NRW closed trade down 1.3 per cent at $2.26 each.
