No explanation has been given as to why Mr Ward is leaving. Comment was being sought at time of publishing.
Non-executive director Laurie Marshall has agreed to reassume the role of managing director in the short-term while the board considers a permanent appointment for the role.
Mr Ward's resignation follows moves by other senior management in Perth to step down from their post.
Earlier this week, VDM Group chief executive John Farrell resigned immediately while Wildhorse Energy announced a reduction to its board with chairman Mark Hughes to step down.
