Local talent promoted: Cunneen

Channel Nine is active in developing the careers of new local talent according to production manager and senior director Russ Cunneen.

Mr Cunneen, who has twenty-eight years’ experience in the television industry, said the station had committed to a considerable level of local production in recent years.

“We are the only TV station in Australia putting on staff because of our workload,” Mr Cunneen said.

“We make about fifty episodes a year of Postcards and Just Add Water, both successful local productions.

“The station is also greatly involved in the upbringing of young journalists from the Academy (of Performing Arts),” he said.

Mr Cunneen said the station was undertaking Winter Breaks as a Postcards special for the WA Tourism Commission and would do another Island Postcards special towards the end of the year.

“On top of that we produce about 1,700 commercials a year plus documentaries and CD-ROMS – it’s full on,” he said.
