Local contractors win $29m roadworks

Bassendean-based Highway Construction and Central Earthmoving have secured road construction contracts worth about $29 million, while Sheffield Resources has awarded a number of contracts at its mineral sands project near Broome.

The Highway Construction contract, worth $24.7 million, includes upgrading a 16-kilomtere section of the highway, known as the Pithara section, including a widened road surface, new overtaking lanes and intersection improvements.

Central Earthmoving has won a $4.2 million contract to build four overtaking lanes on Indian Ocean Drive in the Gascoyne region.

Sheffield Resources has also awarded a number of contracts in relation to the company’s Thunderbird mineral sands project near Broome.

Kimberley-based contractor McCorry Brown Earthmoving is on site and currently undertaking the early stage works.

Lift n Rig, Regal Transport and Dean Wilson Transport are moving the temporary accommodation facilities to site, plumbing and electricals will be undertaken by Nudj Plumbing and Kimberley Electrical, while Grateful Palate will provide catering services.
