Lobby group calls for WA business summit

The state's business lobby group is urging the federal government to come to Western Australia to discuss the impact of the global turmoil on local business and industry.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA is representing 72,000 small businesses at a national summit on the global financial crisis in Brisbane today.

CCIWA executive director industry policy Trevor Lovelle said he will also meet with Small Business Minister Craig Emerson to inform him of the unique challenges and economic conditions that face WA businesses.

"[CCI will] urge him and his cabinet colleagues to visit WA to discuss the impacts of the global financial crisis with local business and industry," Mr Lovelle.

"CCI welcomes the government's meetings with businesses in Sydney and Brisbane to discuss the impacts of the global financial crisis.

"It is important that WA firms are offered a similar opportunity."

Mr Lovelle added that the nation's leaders need to take into account that WA is an important driving force of the national economy when they make significant decisions to help insulate the Australian economy from the global financial crisis.
