Lighter note: What’s in a name
The Note couldn’t help noting some strange coincidences when it comes to business names in WA. Last week we had a story on accounting firm M Squared – established by Craig Miller and Rob Moltoni. If you peek at the WA Government’s lobbyist register there’s also a W Squared – with Helen Westcott and Bruce Wittber. Maybe they were all mathematicians, or something. Perhaps a little more coincidental is the sudden explosion of Pearl monikers in the venture capital business. Firstly, there’s the Perth-based Pearl Capital Investment Pty Ltd established by Chris Michael and the Darwin-based Paspaley pearling family. Then there’s Pearl Capital (WA) Pty Ltd which has Wildhorse Energy Ltd director Richard Pearce, investment banker Jonathan Shellabear, mining and beef executive Mark Hughes and accountant Ennio Tavani on its board. Perhaps these guys should get together?
