Lighter note: WA scrubs up for Nursery Awards

AS The Note trawled through the mile-long list of award recipients for the year, it came across a worthy winner, which is the talk of green-thumbs all over Perth. The Forest Products Commission nursery at West Manjimup has, for the second time, taken out best large production nursery award at the Yates Nursery & Garden Industry Awards for WA. In the 1950s, the nursery was used as a tobacco research facility by the then Agricultural Department before being transferred to the then Forest Department in 1968 to grow bare root tree seedlings. These days, it has a fully containerised system producing over 14 million seedlings a year and not a cough-inducing plant in sight.
