Lighter note: New wine education program

THE wine industry may be steeped in tradition, but in some quarters it’s embracing new technology. The Margaret River Wine Industry Association last week pocketed a $55,000 federal government grant to podcast its WineSMART education program for the region. In the words of association chief executive, Nick Power, WineSMART aims to "make people smarter about wine making". The new program will focus on viticulture and wine making best practice, water management and market development. Mr Power said the podcast would also help tourists decide what they wanted to see on a visit to Margaret River. The grant is part of the government’s AgFund for agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries.
