Lighter note: Nattrass’ last hurrah

IN his final days as Perth’s lord mayor last week, Dr Peter Nattrass demonstrated the city’s commitment to offsetting carbon emissions by sending council staff out to count trees. The "Tree Audit" is expected to result in the planting of as many as 2,000 new trees within the city’s boundaries. "While Perth is widely acknowledged already as being a clean, green city, our priority now is to ensure all precincts have maximum tree coverage," he said in a statement. Council has allocated $100,000 from parking revenue this financial year for its carbon offset and tree-planting program.
