Lighter note: Minis a minor coincidence

THE Bank of Queensland has long trumpeted the synergies and cultural similarities between it and Western Australian takeover target Home Building Society. But even BoQ chief executive David Liddy was surprised that the similarities between the two organisations went right down to the choice of car the company’s mortgage lenders get about in. Turning up to Home’s annual meeting last week, where Home shareholders voted in favour of BoQ’s takeover proposal, Mr Liddy was pleasantly surprised by a red and white Mini Cooper on show. While the Perth-based Home has used Mini’s as the centre-piece of its marketing for several years, Mr Liddy had no idea the company owned a fleet of Mini Coopers. There is a difference, however. BoQ’s suite of Mini’s are blue and gold, perhaps a subconscious indication that the die-hard Brisbane Lions fan may soon support a WA football team?
