Lighter Note: Directorship Stokes style

A colleague of The Note interviewed WA Newspapers Holdings Ltd board wanna-be and Seven Network Ltd chairman Kerry Stokes this week and one of the themes arising from the discussion was WAN chairman Peter Mansell’s concerns about his potential to dominate the board. "Obviously I am intimidating," Mr Stokes said in jest. "I do have an opinion, I have to admit." "I get beaten down a bit and I don’t come up with good ideas all the time, GRD proves it." The somewhat left-of-field investment in Perth-based GRD Ltd has obviously been a sore point for the media magnate. "I was advised too …" he laments. But he was at pains to point out that he’s too busy with a big business empire and a life to be too hands-on as a director. "If I was hands-on I would be a very busy fellow, considering I skied for 30 days in the mountains this year."
