Lend Lease has inside lane on stadium links

The state government has named Lend Lease as its preferred contractor for road and bridge works at the new $1.2 billion Perth Stadium.

Treasurer Troy Buswell said the government would negotiate final contract details with Lend Lease before awarding the contract next month.

The scope of works includes building a new pedestrian underpass linking the stadium to its new train station, resurfacing a 600-metre section of Victoria Park Drive and adding bridge spans to the rail bridge adjacent to Graham Farmer freeway.

Construction will start in May and is expected to be completed by June next year.

"Three detailed bids were received and assessed and Lend Lease was identified as the preferred contractor,” Mr Buswell said. 

“This project will expand the existing road and bridge network to enable the new railway lines to be installed on the Armadale line for the new six-platform Stadium Station to be built at the old Belmont Park Station site.”

The government expects to transfer about 50,000 people from the stadium precinct within an hour of the completion of an event.

Mr Buswell said the work would cause some traffic disruptions but the government would work to minimise issues.

The government last year shortlisted three consortia to design, build, partially finance and maintain the new stadium: WESTADIUM consortium, led by Brookfield Financial and John Laing; Confidem, led by Capealla Capital; and WestAdium, led by Bouygues and Plenary Group.

The consortia have since submitted their responses, which are now undergoing evaluations ahead of the announcement of the successful consortium mid-year.

The stadium is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season.
