The state government has awarded the $200 million managing construction contract for the Elizabeth Quay inlet to a joint venture between Leighton Contractors and Broad Construction Services.
Premier Colin Barnett and Planning Minister John Day said the works under the contract would comprise construction of the 2.7 hectare inlet, the building of new roads and future development sites, as well as parks, promenades and an island with pedestrian links.
The works are scheduled to be complete by mid-2015.
“This is the final and most important contract to complete construction of Elizabeth Quay and deliver a new world-class waterfront precinct for Perth,” Mr Barnett said.
“The appointment of a managing contractor adds to a year of major achievements with more than $55 million of construction and supply contracts awarded, significant works underway on site and the release of the first lots to market for a premier hotel and residential development.”
Mr Day said construction of the inlet would commence in mid-2013, with the bulk of excavation to be complete by 2014.
The Planning Minister also thanked John Holland and Brookfield Multiplex/Georgiou for their “high-quality” submissions to the tender process.
Leighton Contractors and Broad are both subsidiaries of Leighton Holdings.
