Perth
For too long our infrastructure has lacked any element of 'design'. I have been proposing 'design led' solutions to Perth's and WA's infrastructure for some time, where the result of the built work would benefit broader community groups. Main Roads WA's proposals for the Swanbourne replacement bridge is a good case study. The new infrastructure as proposed by MRWA lacked any aspect of design thinking where the government's expenditure on the proposed new bridge would bring wider benefits to local community. In my #bridgingcommunities series I outlined how design-led infrastructure could provide wide appeal and benefits way beyond the initial needs of the new infrastructure. This does not require additional spending. It does, however, require a wider analysis of the needs of community.
