IT’S a sure sign that Australia Day isn’t far away when Sam Kekovich starts spruiking lamb chops. The one-time football legend was in Perth this week for a BBQ in the QV1 Plaza, out to impress not just the locals but hopefully all the Americans and Norwegians and other oil & gas industry expats who work in that part of the city.Sam was planning to whip up the crowd with a megaphone and his unique turn of phrase. Having a go at bottom-feeding bankers, undie-flogging Olympians and interest-free loans on fridges that are smarter than the average stockbroker, he reckons we have lost touch with the egalitarian values that made Australia great.“A lamb chop tastes the same in a designer outfit as it does in stubbies and thongs,” he said in his annual Australia Day address. Sam struggled to get near the megaphone because of the long queue of people wanting a signature on their Kekovich face mask. He also handed out more than 250 lamb chops to the appreciative crowd.
