Construction company John Holland has received a $36 million contract variation for its work with the Public Transport Authority on upgrades to the Claremont train station.

The variation takes the overall contract value to $95 million.

John Holland, which was awarded the initial contract in January, is currently providing maintenance and fault correction of track infrastructure on the PTA rail network, as well as track and civil works for upgrades at Claremont Station.

The scope of works at Claremont includes track alignment, refurbishment of the platforms and removal of the western pedestrian crossing.

The project is expected to be completed by next August.

John Holland operations manager Robert Hennessy said the contractor would employ around 300 workers to complete the works.

“This contract is an indication of the successful working relationship John Holland has with the PTA during the last 20 years – which includes the construction on the Perth Train Station, Perth to Mandurah train line and ongoing track maintenance,” he said.

“We have a strong track record of delivering high quality Western Australian projects, and creating long-term local employment is a major goal for us.”
