Freehills WA managing partner John Atkins will quit the partnership to take on the newly created role of chairman of ANZ in Western Australia.

Mr Atkins will remain in a consulting role with Freehills and will stay on the board of the Committee for Perth.

Staff were told of the move earlier today.

Mr Atkins started his law career as a clerk with Parker & Parker and was managing partner when the merger with Freehills took place almost a decade ago.

Freehills WA managing partner Peter Mansell became the WA managing partner of the combined group as Freehills then turned itself into a national partnership. Mr Atkins succeeded Mr Mansell in the role.
