It’s the freedom not the fuel

It’s the freedom not the fuel: THE Note never likes to judge a book by its cover – but it could not help notice some Perth identities featured in the September issue of the Motor Trade Association’s Motor WA mag and its feature on the motorcycle and scooter industries enjoying a renaissance at the moment. Getting the cover treatment Chellingworth marketing man Paul Perich who’s “hankering for a big sports bike” but is making do with a 125CC Honda Scooter on which he and his wife Suz-ette are pictured. Other industry figures strutting their stuff on two wheels were Ron Mitchell Motors dealer principal John Singleton, North Subaru GM Bruce McGregor, Toyota WA state manager Mark Lauren, Shacks MD Doug Kerr and MTA’s Craig Marsland. Words like “freedom”, “adrenalin” and “escape” were popular descriptions for why these people chose bikes, though we reckon “rising fuel prices” might an added incentive. There were also two members of Parliament feat-ured: John Quigley and Dan Sullivan, who both ride BMW motorcycles. For Mr Quigley it is the sense of freedom and escape (there’s those words again). “My wife and I like to take runs around Trigg, Kalamunda, Fremantle and York.” Mr Sullivan chose “adrenalin” and a lack of a mobile phone when he commutes from his Bunbury electorate.
