JUNE marks the beginning of Umbrella Month, not just for Lighter Note readers hoping to avoid a downpour but for non-profit group Youth Focus, who are selling a range of quality umbrellas during this, their second annual Umbrella Month, to raise money for the prevention of youth suicide, depression and self harm. Last year the inaugural fundraising event was launched by Delta Goodrem and Youth Focus is hoping the community will continue to support the cause by purchasing a box of "brollies" from the group, including handy ones for the golf course and for kids. Why umbrellas, you may ask? Well umbrellas symbolise protection from harsh elements and that is exactly what Youth Focus give to young people between 12 and 18 who are showing early signs of depression, suicide and deliberate self harm. Youth Focus is a Western Australian, community-based organisation that works with around 500 young people and their families each year and require as much support as possible to continue. Call 9361 4222 to order your box of umbrellas.
