The US Consul General in Perth, Oscar de Soto, played host to 50 Western Australian businesses and industry and government representatives last week in a live videoconference with a US official working on opportunities in reconstructing Iraq.
Mr Ross Wherry, senior adviser on the Iraq Reconstruction Task Force formed by the US Agency for International Development, said significant contracts were available to companies around the world. He said Australia would not get any preferential treatment over other countries such as Canada or France, which stood against US involvement in Iraq.
He warned those interested in doing business in Iraq to get in quickly or risk missing out.
