A quick chat with Tracey Horton, Dean of the UWA Business School.
Favourite holiday destination?
San Francisco; I lived there for many years and enjoy returning to catch up with friends and revisit favourite places.
Favourite place in WA to take a short break?
Margaret River region – great food and wine, and plenty to do for entire family.
Best destination to holiday if you have to/want to take the kids?
Any holiday that has plenty of physical activity factored in works well, otherwise the kids get restless! Skiing is a favourite with the kids but my husband and I have learned not to try and keep up!
Pet hate when travelling on airplanes?
People who snore loudly.
If you could only take one item on a long-haul flight what would it be?
My family for company. If they can’t come, a good book.
Biggest travel disaster and what did you learn from it?
I forgot my passport once and did not realise until I arrived at the airport. Now I organise myself the night before I leave.
How often do you take a holiday? Do you prefer short breaks or taking fewer but longer holidays?
I try to take a longer holiday at least once a year. I find it takes me at least a week or so to wind down.
You wish Perth could be more like…
San Francisco because the city and surrounds are so vibrant, particularly around the waterfront; and you can shop any day of the week.
You hope Perth always retains…
Its wonderful, family-friendly culture.
Where have you always wanted to travel/holiday but haven’t managed to yet?
A safari holiday in Africa. I hope we are able to go before my boys start thinking that holidaying with mum and dad isn’t cool.
What was the last book you read?
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. A gripping story which gives an amazing personal insight into life in Afghanistan.
What CD is currently in your car?
Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams; it’s a very mellow listen that calms me down when I am rushing around.
Favourite overseas restaurant?
I already said I love San Francisco, so my favourite overseas restaurants are definitely there. There are so many I never have time to visit all my favourites but you can’t go past Jardiniere, Café Zuni, and for casual fare, Yank Sing and Chevy’s
What WA/Perth restaurant do you keep going back to?
Lamont’s, because every bite of every dish is delicious, and it’s in a lovely location.
Do you support the Eagles or the Dockers?
The mighty Eagles.
