From Thursday August 21 to Saturday August 23, the Australian Red Cross is conducting an International Humanitarian Law Conference which will explore the theme of Building the Peace in Peace Operations, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The conference will be a unique opportunity to examine areas such as, the impact of international humanitarian law and human rights law on peace operations, as well as the practical issues involved in peace building and understanding the complexities involved in upholding the principles of international law in Peace Operations.
Keynote speakers for the conference include Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Lieutenant General John Sanderson AC; Federal Attorney General, the Honourable Daryl Williams AM QC MP; UNHCR Canberra, deputy regional representative, Roberto Mignone; University of Melbourne, lecturer in law and associate director APCML, Bruce Oswald; and Australian Red Cross Victorian Division, international humanitarian law coordinator, and former ICRC Regional Delegation to Israel and the Occupied and Autonomous Territories, legal coordinator, Jim Blackwell.
Registration for the conference can be made with Australian Red Cross WA Division for $285 for comprehensive registration which includes the welcome cocktail function and conference dinner, or $225 for a fulltime registration which excludes the welcome cocktail function and conference dinner.
