Interest rate increase

IN order to keep inflation in check, the Reserve Bank of Australia has increased official interest rates for the first time in 14 months. The 0.25 per cent rise lifted rates to 5.75 per cent, lifting the average home loan repayment in WA by about $30 per month. The Housing Industry Association says the lift in interest rates will be a blow for the building industry and its suppliers, with trend estimate for total dwelling approvals in WA showing falls for the past two months.
