Perth-based InterStaff Recruitment Ltd has established a legal subsidiary to handle complex immigration matters, appeal cases and compliance issues.
InterStaff managing director Dan Engles said today that the new offshoot, InterStaff Legal started business this week as an incorporated legal practice.
InterStaff Legal is headed by David Jolly, a former state director of migration who is well-known in industry circles and an acknowledged authority in the field.
The team includes immigration lawyers Rhonda Jogia and Merridy Parr, and development manager Angela Bowden. Prior to joining InterStaff both Ms Parr and Ms Bowden worked with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Mr Jolly said the immigration environment had become increasingly complex with the growth in government regulation and there was a clear need for a specialist legal firm to service it.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of a major immigration services provider, InterStaff Legal has a ready source of referrals and a depth of experience and back-up within its parent firm.
Mr Jolly said "We have a track record that puts us in very good stead to make a success of InterStaff Legal."
He said the focus of the practice in the first year would be immigration law. Initially, it would be seen in the market as having more the character of a specialised migration consultancy.
In the initial stage, the practice would service clients in Perth and Brisbane where InterStaff Recruitment has established offices.
A long-standing member of the Migration Institute of Australia, Mr Jolly is also keen to help develop services within the practitioner group aimed at giving the disadvantaged greater professional representation.
