Intellect wins Fortescue contract

Fortescue Metals Group has awarded Perth-based Intellect Systems, a subsidiary of Resource Development Group, a control and engineering services contract for the first stage of its North Star magnetite project in the Pilbara. 

Stage 1 of the North Star project involves the development of a small scale plant, designed to utilise and provide new technology to deliver a magnetic iron concentrate at low operating costs.

Commercial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"In addition to prior awards on North Star for the supply of communications cubicles, distribution boards, marshaling panels and junction boxes, Intellect Systems will be providing control systems design, software development, testing and commissioning services for this project as part of an integrated engineering team," Intellect said in a statement. 

The North Star site is located 120 kilometres from Port Hedland, and 25km away from FMG's heavy haul railway.

"Intellect Systems are motivated by the freedom to challenge the traditional approach to systems design and execution and embrace innovation, paving the way for a successful outcome and setting the foundation for North Star stage 2," RDG managing director Jeff Brill said.

"Intellect Systems are also delighted to be delivering a complete end to end industrial technology solution, encompassing the design and supply of communications and electrical cabinets together with the control systems engineering and commissioning. 

"This approach allows us to return tangible value to Fortescue and fast track the project into operation through the use of our integrated project delivery systems."  

RDG's share price closed 7.41 per cent higher at 14.5 cents per share.
