Infrastructure, red tape holding back tourism

Transport infrastructure, hotel and conference capacity, and red tape in the approvals process for new tours have been identified as the biggest barriers to attracting an additional 9 million visitors each year to Western Australia.

Why do the Tourism execs constantly refuse to accept that the single largest barrier to tourism is the COST ! Everybody who lives in WA knows we are the most expensive centre, compared to anywhere else in Australia or in neighbouring countries especially for restaurants, bars and hotels. Rotnest Island and other so- called tourist attractions are just not value for money. Tourism WA will not admit it, but the stats will show the number of people holidaying outside of WA (and Australia) is increasing. Still, they've all got cushy well paid jobs, i wonder where they go for holidays ? 8-)
