Indigenous work

A NEW joint venture involving indigenous people in the State’s construction, engineering and mine contracting industries will be launched in Perth today (July 5) by Senator Ian Campbell.

The joint venture combines the technical and project management experience of leading contractor Henry Walker Eltin with the Ngarda Ngarli Yarndu Foundation, a community organisation representing indigenous people in the Pilbara.

The joint venture company, Ngarda Civil & Mining, has the commercial backing of Indigenous Business Australia (formerly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commercial Development Corporation), which has provided $150,000 in start-up capital to the company.

Another group, Indigenous People in Mining, based in Kalgoorlie, has been working closely with the Department of Commerce and Trade, WMC Resources Ltd and AngloGold Ltd to become more involved in the mining process.
