StateWest awarded for charity work

STATEWEST Credit Society staff have won the Highest Fundraising Team 2003 Award for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s “Walk To Cure Diabetes” day for raising more than $14,000.

The society’s staff have been involved in fundraising for JDRF for three years, raising almost $30,000 for the charity.

In 2003 staff also raised funds for other local charities such as the PMH Caring for Kids Foundation and the Cerebral Palsy Association of WA.

All StateWest fundraising activities are coordinated internally by a team of 12 volunteer staff members who manage events such as free dress days, a quiz night, a movie night, raffles and reality TV sweepstakes.

StateWest marketing manager Paul Simpson said involving the staff in fundraising efforts had created a different, positive corporate culture.

“The team at StateWest has a strong sense of achievement and pride in their fundraising efforts, both individually and collectively,” he said.

“The important factor is that our support of the JDRF team has not come from corporate sponsorship.

“It has resulted from a lot of hard work and dedication by StateWest staff to go out and fundraise as a team.”
