PERTH-based gold and base metal explorer Fimiston Mining NL has invested $3.6 million to acquire a third of the capital of information technology company, Point Technology Pty Ltd.
Point is owned and managed by three experienced IT specialists who have held senior positions within major corporations, such as Microsoft and Telstra.
Point will use the capital provided by Fimiston in a global launch of its advanced technology products in the high growth wireless application protocol and knowledge management sectors of the Internet business-to-business market.
Point’s WAP software enhances the user’s ability to access relative real time information from the Internet through the mobile phone system.
The company’s knowledge management software is designed to enhance the user’s productivity across a range of Internet technologies and corporate systems.
Fimiston managing director Barry Fehlberg said both these markets are currently experiencing rapid growth.
“Point has a strong IT background, has great products for sale, a sound global distribution strategy and is at the forefront of development of WAP and business-to-business management,” he said.
“We believe the investment to be sound and exciting for the company.”
