IMF: Microsoft payment a way off

WA litigation funder IMF says damages from Microsoft will probably not be paid to its client Uniloc until 2012 at the earliest.

But IMF also said Uniloc was in the process of settlng claims with around 120 other defendants it had served with infringement actions, including Adobe, McAfee and Sony.

Earlier this week the United States Court of Appeals upheld Uniloc's appeal that Microsoft infringed its patent on anti-piracy software, deeming a further trial to determine damages should take place.

In 2009 courts in the US had awarded Uniloc $388 million in damages, but Microsoft appealed that decision and the new payout is expected to be lower than the original.
