IBT Education Limited has announced that Simon Fraser University has approved the establishment of Fraser International College, a decision that was reportedly delayed because of IBT's perceived link to the AWB scandal. Some concerns were expressed within the university about IBT's connection to the AWB Ltd scandal through its chairman Trevor Flugge who was a former director of AWB and a key figure in the current Cole inquiry.
The connection gave ammunition to opponents of IBT's proposal. Mr Flugge has stood down from the IBT board. Fraser International College will be located at the University's Burnaby Mountain campus just outside Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A recognition and educational services agreement, which will set out the co-operative arrangement under which Fraser International College will be run, is expected to be executed in the near future.
