The offshore owners of Hyatt Regency Perth are planning a mammoth redevelopment of the East Perth hotel, with plans lodged for approval for the first stage of a three-tower residential and commercial precinct.

Singapore Stock Exchange-listed Tuan Sing Holdings lodged paperwork with the City of Perth last week to seek approval for the first stage of its plan, with the build estimated to be worth around $50 million.

According to Tuan Sing’s annual report, released last month, the first stage of works involves the refurbishment of existing commercial space and the construction of a new podium.

“The proposed development when completed shall increase the retail space, activate the centre with street engagement and innovate the space with modern retail concept and family entertainment attraction, making it a prominent destination,” Tuan Sing said in its annual report.

Tuan Sing said the first stage was planned to be implemented by early next year.

The group has been planning the redevelopment since 2010, when it engaged national architecture firm Bates Smart to formulate a three-tower plan.

The firm’s design for the Hyatt comprised two residential towers located on Terrace Road, with a commercial tower to be located on the corner of Plain Street and Adelaide Terrace.
