Hotel chain looks to uni sites

WA universities are being targeted as sites for future Travelodge hotels following an agreement reached with leading Australian property development company CRI, Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation (SPHC) and Mac-quarie University in Sydney.

Under the scheme, believed to be the first of its kind in an Australian university, CRI, on behalf of SPHC, is to develop a $11 million, 120-room hotel on the grounds of Macquarie University.

CRI chairman Peter Wills said he would be outlining the concept to WA universities over the next few weeks with the aim of setting up similar Travelodge hotels here.

He said the facilities and location of larger universities in WA made them ideal for locating a concept hotel developed specifically with SPHC.

“Research by CRI suggests there is a strong market for hotels located on campuses in WA.

“Conference organisations are drawn to the first rate facilities and higher learning resources available at universities. Also, people undertaking part-time and post-graduate studies, their families and visiting staff will be able to live on campus in reasonably priced, quality accommodation for long study periods,” he said.
