Local IT services firm Empired has won a managed services contract worth at least $9 million from state-owned Horizon Power.

Empired will provide its managed services to Horizon’s network, security, cloud, infrastructure, and core business applications.

The contract is for an initial three-year term and includes two one-year extension options. It is expected to generate $3 million in revenue each year.

Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said the contract would expand the company's existing relationship with Horizon Power.

“The energy market is changing rapidly, and we look forward to playing a pivotal role in Horizon Powers’ digital transformation as it seeks to embrace new technologies to meet the changing needs of their clients,” Mr Baskerville said.

Earlier this year, Empired won a $52 million contract from the Victorian government to provide services to the state’s environmental authority.

The company is currently the subject of a $233 million takeover by international consulting firm Capgemini Australia.

Empired’s shares were down 0.4 per cent at 1:40pm AEST to trade at $1.32.
