I HAD never been to Krakow, Poland. And it looked like I was not going to make it. We were stuck in Ireland’s Shannon airport waiting for a winter storm to clear over Europe. Let me back track. Our lame duck governor had asked me to participate in an export mission to Eastern Europe. I was hesitant. As a columnist with an interest in the slightly absurd, I was not sure I could offer the governor the typical rah-rah business story about local manufacturers expanding into overseas markets.
