Healthy result for BGC

BGC has emerged as the preferred tenderer for much of the work on the redevelopment of St John of God Healthcare Subiaco.

The total redevelopment is understood to be worth about $80 million and will include a new 640-bay car park, an ambulatory care centre, five new operating theatres, a new chapel and a total refurbishment of the existing hospital.

BGC Construction general manager Gerry Forde said the only part of the redevelopment that was not fully signed off was the $15 million cancer centre.

The cancer centre proposal is currently awaiting Commonwealth approval, along with the outcome of a Radiation Oncology Health Program Grant application.

BGC is also in the mix to win the contract for the $25 million St John of God Murdoch expansion, which involves an expansion of that hospital’s emergency department, additional wards and operating theatres.

An industry source said the Murdoch job was a two-horse race between BGC and Doric Construction.
