COOPERATIVE Bulk Handling marketing subsidiary Agracorp has donated 50 tonnes of milling quality oats to Foodbank WA to help people in need.
The first 15 tonnes have already arrived and will start to be distributed through the 500 member community and welfare agencies and to the 70 schools participating in Foodbank’s Breakfast Club program.
Kids in the breakfast club often arrive at school without breakfast and sometimes without a proper dinner the night before.
Feedback from the schools where breakfast is being provided is that these children concentrate more, behave better, there is less disruption in class and they do better in school.
The raw oats have been processed to quick oats and can be made into hot porridge, cold muesli or used in muffins, cakes and biscuits.
Thanks to Agracorp, oats processor Quaker Oats and packager Greens General Foods, this quantity will translate into 750,000 serves of one of the best nutritional foods.
This year Foodbank has distributed nearly 1.5 million kilograms of fresh, packaged and frozen food through the agencies to people in need.
